Videocon looks to sell DTH biz to rival firms
Mumbai: Television and fridge maker Videocon Industries, with interests in oil and energy, is planning to sell its direct-to-home (DTH) business Videocon d2h to one of its rivals, a person with direct knowledge of the development said, signalling a consolidation among six DTH operators. “The idea is to build scale with solid subscribers, but with a lower stake,” the person said. India has 44.2 mn DTH subs, 825 channels: Trai
MUMBAI: India has 44.21 million private DTH subscribers as of 31 December 2011, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in its quarterly report. The total number of registered subscribers is from the six private direct-to-home operators – Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon D2H, Reliance Digital TV and Sun Direct. Digital cable TV, however, is growing slowly in the Cas (conditional access system) notified areas. Set Max HD now available on Videocon d2h
MUMBAI: Videocon d2h has agreed to carry the high definition (HD) feed of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The DTH operator has inked a deal with MSM Discovery to broadcast the IPL on Max, the official broadcaster of the popular T20 league, in HD. Govt & Trai should act on time if digitisation deadline is to be met: Stakeholders
NEW DELHI: Participants at a one-day meet to discuss the march towards digitisation agreed that there would be no difficulty in meeting the deadlines if the government and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) complete their tasks in time. Cable operators chafe at mandatory digitization
INDORE: At a time when cable operators in the state are working hard to woo their subscribers to shell out more under the new tax regime, another issue has started haunting them. A recent amendment to the Section 4A of the Cable Regulation Act, 1995 legalizes an ordinance issued in October this year for implementing mandatory addressable digitization (MAD) throughout the country in phased manner beginning from June 30 this year.
