NEW DELHI: The latest marketing initiative by directto-home (DTH) company Sun Direct that allows subscribers of rival companies to exchange their existing set-top-boxes (STB) for Sun’s hi-definition-enabled service could run into legal troubles. Rival DTH firms say a large chunk of the set-top-boxes that are supplied to subscribers with new connections is ‘on lease’ and their ownership lies with the DTH Company. Sun Direct promotes Tony D’Silva to CEO

MUMBAI: Sun Direct has elevated its chief operating officer Tony D’Silva to the post of CEO. D’Silva, who joined Sun Direct in September 2007, has spearheaded the DTH company’s subscriber growth to 5.3 million. Prior to Sun Direct, D’Silva was heading Star India’s distribution business. He has also worked with Zee Group. He was the CEO of Modi Entertainment Networks before taking over as Zee Network’s head of international operations. Sun Direct DTH Platform brings DLF IPL in HD format on Set Max

Chennai – Sun Direct the country’s second largest DTH player in India today announced that it is all set to telecast DLF IPL matches in HD on SET MAX. This is for the first time in India that the country’s largest and most popular sporting and entertainment event will make its appearance in High Definition TV format thanks to Sun Direct HD ready technology. Sun Direct has joined hands with Set Max, who will provide the HD feed of the DLF IPL matches from March 12, 2010 onwards. MUMBAI: Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has announced the launch of Discovery HD, the 24-hour high-definition channel, in India. Sun Direct TV is rolling out the High Definition services in India. HD will redefine the television viewing experience in the country. Sun Direct test launched the first ever High Definition (HD) service on DTH platform in India in April 2009 and is now launching a service of bouquet of five channels, Hindi GEC, Tamil GEC, English Movies, Kids, Educational and Tamil/Telugu Movies in India.
