India has 44.2 mn DTH subs, 825 channels: Trai
MUMBAI: India has 44.21 million private DTH subscribers as of 31 December 2011, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in its quarterly report. The total number of registered subscribers is from the six private direct-to-home operators – Dish TV, Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, Videocon D2H, Reliance Digital TV and Sun Direct. Digital cable TV, however, is growing slowly in the Cas (conditional access system) notified areas. Cable TV operators have marginally increased the seeding of set-top boxes (STBs) in the Cas areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai during this period. According »»»
India’s DTH base ends 2011 with 45 million subscribers
India’s DTH pay TV market ended 2011 with almost 44.4 million subscribers, 30 million of which were on a net basis. This is equivalent to 25-30 per cent average market share, according to Media Partners Asia’s (MPA) latest research findings. Dish TV continues to lead with a market share of 28.2 per cent, while late entrant Videocon D2H has seen robust additions to surpass Big TV. Sun TV Network launches Sun TV RI, Sun Life and Gemini Life
Sun TV Network has launched three new pay channels from Monday — Sun Life, Sun TV RI (Rest of India) in Tamil and Gemini Life in Telugu. Sun Life and Gemini Life will focus on areas like lifestyle, religion, health and education, the Chennai-based broadcaster said. Sun TV RI will transmit the same content that goes on air on its flagship Sun TV channel, but the broadcast will be specialized for all states other than Tamil Nadu, allowing advertisers to focus on specific geographical areas. Sun Direct adds Sun Action, Gemini Action, Surya Action and Suriyan TV on its platform
Sun Direct adds four new channels from the Sun Network bouquet of channels on its platform. Presently the four channels are in scrambled mode. As these channels are not yet officially launched. Don’t know what type of generic channels are these channels. Once the channels are officially launched, we will update the site with all the information.
