Price cuts on pay-per-view movie platforms draw more viewers
In September, the Salman Khan action movie Dabangg smashed the box office and collected rave reviews as well. Barely a month after its exit from multiplexes, the film is appearing on Tata Sky Ltd’s pay-per-view movie platform, Showcase, at an affordable Rs.25. And within a week of its release on Showcase, Dabangg was ordered by more than 100,000 subscribers, according to Vikram Mehra, chief marketing officer at Tata Sky. Festive season brings cheer to DTH firms
The festive season lit up sales numbers of direct-to home (DTH) television service providers, with nearly two million subscribers added in a month. This is nearly double the number of monthly acquisitions recorded in the six-operator sector in the first half of the year. “October has been a bumper month. In the first five days of November, the industry added 100,000 subscribers every day, in itself a record. Big CBS, Den Networks sign deal
Den Networks to distribute Big CBS Prime, Big CBS Spark and Big CBS Love on its analogue and digital cable television platforms. DTH players line up offers during festive season
The direct-to-home (DTH) space is likely to witness a price war as operators like Tata Sky, Dish TV and Sun Direct offer discounts on new connections to cash in on the festive season. According to industry analysts, the DTH market is growing at about 20-25 per cent, with additions from the rural market. Hence, DTH players are designing packages keeping in mind the rural consumers.
