PSUs line up to hold DD’s DTH e-auction
New Delhi: Hoping to leverage their experience of conducting e-auctions for coal blocks, minerals and precious metals, around half a dozen public sector entities are now in the race to bag the Prasar Bharati contract for conducting the first-ever e-auctions for TV channel slots on the DD Direct Plus DTH platform. Doordarshan to settle disputes of Rs 400cr
The Prasar Bharati board will soon go for the one-time out-of-court settlement of all the outstanding arbitration cases of Doordarshan (DD) in the last 10 years or so. “DD has been involved in various arbitration cases with various entities. On July 14, 15, and 16, there will be an open house in Mumbai where all arbitration cases will be sought to be resolved under a single roof in an one-time settlement effort,” a government official told HT. Govt in favour of 74% FDI for DTH: Raghu menon
NEW DELHI: The Information & Broadcasting Ministry would like to take forward the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to up foreign direct investment in direct-to-home to 74 per cent but there are processes involved before this can be done, said I&B secretary Raghu Menon. Menon said DTH had taken television to the remotest corners of the country and so the government would like to encourage the sector. Zee Turner moves TDSAT against Prasar Bharati
Zee Turner, owner of Zee Cinema, today moved sectoral tribunal the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against a disconnection notice issued by Prasar Bharati, India’s only free DTH service provider. Zee Turner submitted before the TDSAT that the state-owned direct to home (DTH) service provider Prasar Bharati has threatened not to carry its channel but had not given the mandatory 21 days time. Bangalore: AIR goes off air, first in 55 years
Bangalore, 23 November 2010: For the first time in 55 years radio waves fell silent across the State with the All India Radio going off air on Tuesday, when all the employees of AIR went on a strike seeking a repeal of the Prasar Bharathi Act, 1990. As many as five radio channels, Akashvani Bangalore, Direct-to-Home (DTH), Vividh Bharathi and Amruthavarshini, a musical channel went off the air from 9 am. Private DTH operators to cash in on govt-funded HD broadcast of CWG
New Delhi: With the non-availability of HD-enabled set top boxes of Doordarshan’s direct-to-home services in the market, the over Rs 200-crore government funded high definition (HD) broadcast Commonwealth Games (CWG) is only benefiting the private DTH operators. According to sources, the HD-feed of CWG will only be available to the 60,000 subscribers of the five private HD DTH services of Sun Direct, Dish TV, Digital TV, Big TV and Tata Sky and not to the 5-million plus subscribers of DD Direct Plus, the free-to-air DTH service of Doordarshan as there are no HD boxes of DD Direct in the market. Games magic: Even DD goes HD
Commonwealth Games 2010 will be available on high definition (HD) mode, considered best in the world, through Direct To Home platforms to millions of viewers across India. India’s national broadcaster Doordarshan has decided to launch the country’s first indigenous high definition channel on its Direct To Home Platform, DD Direct, on September 1 to broadcast the Games, which would be shared free of cost with other DTH operators.
