Govt in favour of 74% FDI for DTH: Raghu menon
NEW DELHI: The Information & Broadcasting Ministry would like to take forward the recommendation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to up foreign direct investment in direct-to-home to 74 per cent but there are processes involved before this can be done, said I&B secretary Raghu Menon. Menon said DTH had taken television to the remotest corners of the country and so the government would like to encourage the sector. WWIL eyes Rs 3.4 bn revenue in FY’11
MUMBAI: Wire and Wireless (India) Ltd is targeting a revenue of Rs 3.4 billion and expects to be Ebitda positive for the full-fiscal, a source close to the company said. Fuelling this over 20 growth will be the MSO’s entry into new markets, a projected rise in carriage revenue and growth in subscription income. More broadcasters move TDSAT against TRAI new tariff regime
NEW DELHI: Joining other broadcasters, Viacom 18 Media and Sun TV on Wednesday approached sectoral tribunal TDSAT, challenging TRAI’s tariff order to cap wholesale price of channels for DTH and IPTV service providers at 35 per cent of the rates they charge cable operators. Currently, the broadcasters charge DTH and IPTV player 50 per cent of what they charge cable operators. HITS finds no takers as MSOs await transponders and comprehensive policy
MUMBAI/NEW DELHI: On 31 March, Wire and Wireless (India) Ltd. ended its only Headend-In-The-Sky (HITS) service in the country after making no impact on the market, sinking in losses of over Rs 1 billion. Four months later, the scenario is no different and the technology that would have put digitisation on the fast track stands unused. Trai caps a la carte channel price to 35% of non-Cas areas
MUMBAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has capped the a la carte pricing of channels for addressable systems at 35 per cent the cost in non-Cas areas, a step that will bring down the content cost for DTH, digital cable and IPTV operators. The earlier rate for DTH operators was fixed at 50 per cent of pricing in non-Cas areas. Trai recommends 74% FDI in cable, DTH
MUMBAI: India’s broadcast sector regulator clearly feels digital distribution platform providers need a higher foreign direct investment (FDI) cap than their content services counterpart. In its recommendations sent to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry today, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended increasing FDI limit in DTH, national and state-level cable network operators and teleport to 74 per cent from 49 per cent. The Consolidated FDI Policy dated 31st March 2010 issued by the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) has come into effect since 1st April, 2010. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released the recommendations on Foreign investment in Broadcasting sector. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has requested TRAI to review its recommendations dated 26th April, 2008 on Foreign investment in Broadcasting sector in the light of recent changes in FDI policy.
