DTH ops start HD price war
MUMBAI: The price war on the HD front has begun. Soon after Tata Sky announced its aggressive entry pricing, market leader Dish TV has dropped the cost of its Tru HD box from Rs 5,990, when launched, to Rs 2,990. Dish TV’s package includes the price of the set-top box (STB), LNB, Dish antenna and remote. The company is also offering two months subscription of Platinum/South Platinum Pack and two months subscription of HD Pack. Customers will have to pay an extra amount of Rs 200 for installation. NEW DELHI: Direct-to-home (DTH) television service providers have unleashed a price war leading to a fall in the cost of high-definition(HD) set top box by as much as 50% over the last few weeks. ESPN Star Sports signs up Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV for HD feed
MUMBAI: In what could mark a serious push for high definition technology in the country, ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has signed deals with Tata Sky and Airtel Digital TV to bring to their viewers the football World Cup and Wimbledon tennis grand slam in HD mode. ESS had initially done a deal with Dish TV, India’s leading direct-to-home (DTH) operator. Dishtv launches its high-definition service – Dish Tru HD
The DTH (direct-to-home) player, Dishtv has launched its high-definition (HD) service – Dish Tru HD. Among DTH service providers, Sun Network and Reliance Big TV already provide the HD service. Announcing the launch of the service, Jawahar Goel, managing director, Dishtv said, “In other parts of the world such as the US, DTH players offer high-definition service to viewers. A few Indian players are also currently offering the service.
