Den Networks to invest Rs.1,000 crore on digital cable rollout in India
Mumbai: Television cable service provider Den Networks plans to invest Rs1,000 crore over 3-4 years for rolling out digital cable networks in India, a senior official told Reuters on Monday. Last week, India approved an ordinance on digitization of cable network, in a move that boosted the prospects for cable television service providers and broadcasters. Hathway Cable needs Rs 7 bn funding for digitisation
MUMBAI: Hathway Cable & Datacom will require an investment of Rs 6-7 billion to digitise its existing subscriber base if the government mandates the phasing out of analogue cable, a top official said. In the first phase involving the four metros, India’s leading multi-system operator (MSO) will need Rs one billion. Hathway has cable TV operations in Mumbai and Delhi. Apex court orders new tariff formula for DTH operators
In a move that will ensure that the cost of cable channels will continue to remain affordable for consumers even after shifting from analogue to digital services, the Supreme Court last week ordered a new tariff formula for all digital addressable platforms. The apex court has fixed 42 per cent of non-CAS tariffs as the new benchmark for all future commercial agreements between broadcasters, direct-to-home (DTH) firms and MSOs offering digital cable services. Hathway, DEN surge on TRAI ruling on digital cable
Shares of Hathway Cable and Den Networks jumped after telecom cum broadcasting regulator TRAI said that all cable operators need to switch to digital systems by December 2013. Shares of DTH operators Dish TV and Sun TV also gained amid optimism that the TRAI ruling may prompt many consumers to opt for DTH services.
