WWIL targets townships for HITS expansion

Focus 2009: DTH players seek rationalisation of taxes
The DTH (direct to home) industry is seeking tax rationalisation from the government for the industry to grow and to speed up the digitisation process. The industry captains say that the taxation on the sector in India is possibly the highest across the globe. “When the licenses were issued by the government, there was no tax and we rolled out the product at a particular price. Today, we pay service tax, entertainment tax and VAT. We haven’t passed it on to the consumers,” said Rajiv Khattar, president, projects, Dish TV. DTH operators feel HITS will expand the digital market
NEW DELHI: Direct-to-home operators said they did not treat the cable operator as their competitor and felt DTH was simply one other way for the country to get digitised. Modified TV channels norms to include HITS operators
The Government on Thursday said in an official statement that it had approved a modification of policy guidelines for downlinking of television channels to enable broadcasters to provide content to Headend-In-The-Sky (HITS) operators. Earlier in November, the Cabinet had cleared the proposal of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to issue policy guidelines for HITS operators to provide services in the country. Government approves modified HITS guidelines
New Delhi, Dec 17 (IANS) The government Thursday approved modification of policy guidelines for downlinking of television channels to enable broadcasters to provide their content to satellite-based Headend-In-the-Sky (HITS) service providers. The HITS, a technology that enables satellite transmission of digital broadcasting signals, will enable cable operators to digitalise their analogue system. Govt gets tough on DD carriage by MSOs & DTH services
NEW DELHI: Indian Cable TV MSOs operators had better watch out. The Government has once again reminded all state governments and union territories to ensure strict compliance with its mandate for carrying Doordarshan and Parliament channels on cable TV networks and DTH services.
