Doordarshan to settle disputes of Rs 400cr
The Prasar Bharati board will soon go for the one-time out-of-court settlement of all the outstanding arbitration cases of Doordarshan (DD) in the last 10 years or so. “DD has been involved in various arbitration cases with various entities. On July 14, 15, and 16, there will be an open house in Mumbai where all arbitration cases will be sought to be resolved under a single roof in an one-time settlement effort,” a government official told HT. DD issues disconnection notice to 7 channels on its DTH
NEW DELHI: As the government clearance is yet to come for boosting the capacity of DD Direct Plus, the pubcaster has issued disconnection notices to seven channels to make place for the high definition (HD) channels that were launched to coincide with the Commonwealth Games. The country’s only free-to-air DTH platform has a capacity of 59 channels while it beams 57 TV channels, apart from 21 channels of All India Radio. The TV channels include 21 Doordarshan channels. Zee Turner moves TDSAT against Prasar Bharati
Zee Turner, owner of Zee Cinema, today moved sectoral tribunal the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) against a disconnection notice issued by Prasar Bharati, India’s only free DTH service provider. Zee Turner submitted before the TDSAT that the state-owned direct to home (DTH) service provider Prasar Bharati has threatened not to carry its channel but had not given the mandatory 21 days time. Private DTH operators to cash in on govt-funded HD broadcast of CWG
New Delhi: With the non-availability of HD-enabled set top boxes of Doordarshan’s direct-to-home services in the market, the over Rs 200-crore government funded high definition (HD) broadcast Commonwealth Games (CWG) is only benefiting the private DTH operators. According to sources, the HD-feed of CWG will only be available to the 60,000 subscribers of the five private HD DTH services of Sun Direct, Dish TV, Digital TV, Big TV and Tata Sky and not to the 5-million plus subscribers of DD Direct Plus, the free-to-air DTH service of Doordarshan as there are no HD boxes of DD Direct in the market. TRAI move on STB interoperability receives mixed response
New Delhi, Sep 15 : After mobile number portability, the telecom and broadcast regulator’s move to bring interopertability to Set Top Boxes (STB) has evoked a mixed response from the Direct-to-Home (DTH) operators. STB interopertability means the STBs of any DTH platform should be usable on any other DTH platform. It will enable customers to switch from one operator to another on the same set top box by just using a module known as conditional access module (CAM). DD Direct Plus augmentation to cost Rs.554 million
NEW DELHI: The augmentation of the capacity of the country’s only free direct-to-home platform DD Direct Plus to 97 channels will cost Rs 554.3 million. The augmentation in the first phase will be completed on 31 March 2011. The plan is to increase DD Direct Plus’ capacity to 200 by the end of the financial year 2011-12. The platform currently has a capacity of 59 channels while it presently beams 57 TV channels, apart from 21 channels of All India Radio. The TV channels include 21 Doordarshan channels.
