Bharti and Reliance raise prices of set-top boxes
Indian operators Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications have raised the prices of their set-top boxes for direct-to-home (DTH) TV services to new customers and cut free-view periods. Bharti Airtel has raised the price of its set-top boxes by INR243 each, while Reliance has increased its prices by INR200, executives at the two companies told Dow Jones Newswires. Airtel digital TV, the DTH service by Bharti Airtel announced that it has entered into a partnership with Viacom 18-Colors to launch its first subscription service offering 24|7 movie and video content. Superhitz will be available via subscription to all Airtel digital TV’s 6 million customers across the country.
