Dish TV adds Mazhavil Manorama and Dabangg channel on its platform
Today, Dish TV added 2 new channels to its bouquet of channels. Malayalam Manorama channel on channel no.938 from NSS6 and Dabangg channel on channel no.117 from AsiaSat5. Also they have removed TBN channel from their platform. Mazhavil Manorama is the Malayalam general entertainment TV channel from the Malayala Manorama group. Recently Airtel Digital TV added 3 new HD channels to its bouquet taking its tally to 11 Full Time True HD channels. Although people are expecting them to added ESPN HD and STAR Cricket HD, but once again they disappointed by not adding them. But still it is a good news for Airtel Digital TV subscribers. HD subscriber base to double; touch 2.5 lakh in FY’12: Dish TV
NEW DELHI: With more high definition (HD) channels being launched in the country, DTH major Dish TV is betting big on this platform and expects its HD subscriber base to double this fiscal to 2.5 lakh. “When we launched last year, HD was just coming in. Now, the ground is set and we are seeing HD content coming in not just in sports but also general entertainment channels,” Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor told media. “This gives us confidence of being able to double our HD base in FY’12 from 1.25 lakh,” he added. DTH subscriptions grow by million, every month
Direct-to-home TV subscriptions are increasing by more than a million every month now, a figure expected to grow much faster on a friendly climate created by the government’s keen push for digitisation and an increase in FDI limit in the DTH segment. In the first three months of 2011, DTH subscribers registered with private service providers had climbed by 3.51 million — from 32.05 million to 35.56 million — in the December 2010 quarter, averaging more than a million every month. Complete list of HD channels avialable in India
As of now 23 Full Time True HD (1920 X 1080i pixels) channels are available in India, but sad part is that not even a single DTH operator in the country is providing all True HD Channels under their platform. Currently 6 DTH operators are providing HD Services in India naming Dish TV, Tata Sky, Sun Direct, Reliance Digital TV, Airtel Digital TV & Videocon D2H. Hotels to be taxed for DTH in every room
COIMBATORE: Hotels in Tamil Nadu will henceforth have to shell out an entertainment tax of 30 per cent for every room which has a television receiving signals from a DTH (Direct to Home) broadcasting service. Hoteliers say the decision will hit them hard considering the bevy of taxes already imposed on them. The Amendment to the Tamil Nadu Entertainments Tax Rules, 1939, which has been notified in the Gazette, says “In case of hotel or restaurant, each room or premises where signals of DTH broadcasting service are received shall be treated as a separate place of entertainment.” For that purpose, »»»
More trouble for Dayanidhi Maran; grant of DTH to Sun Direct under CBI scanner
NEW DELHI: After his alleged involvement in the 2G scam and leasing of telephone lines, former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran’s ‘role’ in sanctioning of spectrum to Sun Direct is now being looked into by the CBI. The agency had sought the files from Department of Telecom related to spectrum allocation made to direct-to-home (DTH) broadcasters by seeking details of sanction of bandwidth.
