DTH ops want govt to take measures for cheaper STBs
NEW DELHI: Even as most DTH operators differ that a common Open Architecture based set-top box could ensure technical interoperability among different operators, they are unanimous that the government should take steps to reduce the cost of the STBs. Meanwhile, most operators have lauded the government’s efforts towards digitisation and expressed their willingness to support these measures. Tata Sky launches Actve Games
New Delhi: In a bid to make your TV the new playground, Tata Sky Ltd in association with Hungama Game Studio has launched its gaming service – Actve Games. The service aims at providing over 50 different games throughout the year on Tata Sky Actve Platform, with at least 6 of them to be enjoyed daily. No plans to cut price of DTH service, say players
Despite fierce competition among direct to home (DTH) companies, consumers are unlikely to see any further reduction in prices of new connections. Reducing costs would mean incurring more costs for the DTH players, who are yet to achieve a break-even. Tata Sky recently came out with new pricing of Rs 999, under which it offers only the equipment (set-top-box). Sun Direct gets FIPB nod for Astro to up stake
MUMBAI: Kalanithi Maran-owned Kal Media Services has got the government nod to induct foreign equity in an investing company, clearing the way for Malaysia-based Astro Group to increase its holding in Sun Direct from 20 per cent to 35 per cent. Astro is to pick up 37.5 per cent stake in Kal Media, according to the application. Kal Media Services was then to pick up 40 per cent stake in Sun Direct, giving Astro an effective indirect stake of 15 per cent, taking Astro’s effective holding in the DTH company to 35 per cent. Tata Sky crosses 6 mn subscriber mark
NEW DELHI: Direct-to-Home major Tata Sky on Thursday said it has crossed the six million subscriber mark. “We have received tremendous repsonse from the market and have crossed six million subscribers. We are poised for further growth in the coming months, especially on the back of interactive services that we have launched,” Tata Sky Chief Marketing Officer Mr Vikram Mehra told reporters here.
