Discovery Communications has launched a new programme called Life on its flagship, Discovery Channel. The ten-part series was filmed across all continents, and took over 3,000 days to make. The images will be introduced by David Attenborough. The series promises never-before shots: A toad rolling down a mountain to escape a tarantula, Komodo dragons bringing down an animal ten times their size and so on. DEN Networks cashes in on DTH campaigns

New Delhi: The cable companies, along with the DTH service providers, are reaping benefits from the annual Rs 1,000 crore marketing blitz undertaken by the six DTH providers. DEN Networks is set to double its cable subscriber base to 20 million within next 12-18 months, that too without spending any money on promotions. As a result, by end-2011, mid-2012, DEN is hopeful of becoming the single-largest cable firm in India commanding 35-40% in the overall market. Star gets nod to raise stake in Tata Sky

New Delhi: The government is said to have cleared the decks for leading broadcaster Star India to not only increase its stake in direct-to-home (DTH) venture Tata Sky but also pump over Rs 320 crore into the company. This may well be the single-largest investments in the media sector in last one year. Tata Sky is currently the third-largest DTH operator with over 5 million subscriber base and is looking for investments to take on competition in a six-player, 24 million DTH subscriber market.
