Dish TV Q3 net loss widens to Rs 762 mn on strong subscriber growth

MUMBAI: Dish TV has posted a net loss of Rs 762.18 million for the quarter ended 31 December 2009, as against a net loss of Rs 1.18 billion in the year-ago period. The third-quarter loss, however, has widened from the previous three months in which the leading DTH service provider had posted a loss of Rs 561.34 million. Amassing 0.55 million subscribers during the quarter to take its total base to 6.4 million, Dish TV has reported a 43.91 per cent jump in gross sales and operating revenues to Rs 2.77 billion, compared to Rs 1.93 billion a year ago. From Feb 1, pay more for direct-to-home TV service

Come February 1, you will have to shell out Rs 20 more per month for availing the direct-to-home (DTH) television service — popular providers are Tata Sky, Sun TV and Airtel among others. The Delhi government will, for the first time, impose entertainment tax on the DTH service. The move will earn it 20 per cent more entertainment tax. Orissa levies 5% tax to DTH, announces a slew of measures for urban poor

BHUBANESWAR: Direct to Home [DTH] operators will have to cough up five per cent of their gross receipt as entertainment tax to Orissa government’s coffer. This was decided in the cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister, Naveen Patnaik on Thursday. State finance minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadei said the government will amend the entertainment tax laws to bring DTH operators under its fold. NEW DELHI: Direct to home service (DTH) provider Dish TV is planning to launch conditional access modules (CAM) which will allow consumers owning set-top-box of other operators to switch to Dish TV’s feed of television channels, a person from a broadcast company with knowledge of the development said.
