Worldspace’s Holly channel keeps date with India
MUMBAI: That the closure of India operations came as a surprise to much of its staff is apparent from the Christmas special channel ‘Holly’ that was put together in India earlier this month. Holly, that runs back to back Christmas programming every year from 10 to 31 December, is traditionally produced in the US and distributed to all the countries Worldspace operates in. DTH comes under entertainment tax net in Delhi
NEW DELHI: Direct-to-Home (DTH) subscribers in Delhi have been brought under the entertainment tax regime in Delhi. This decision was taken by the Delhi Cabinet in a meeting held earlier this month presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. A draft amendment Bill was cleared at this meeting for levying entertainment tax on DTH subscribers and it was slated to come into effect from this month itself. The residential DTH subscribers will have to pay Rs 20 more per connection on a monthly basis while the entertainment tax would be as high as Rs 50 for the commercial subscribers. Subscribers of »»»
aMap signs agreement with Tata Sky
aMap has signed a contract with Tata Sky, securing its DTH audience measurement business. With this deal, aMap will deliver DTH viewership and interactive engagement metrics. WorldSpace won’t make music in India anymore
NEW DELHI: The first mail Thejaswi Udupa read on Christmas morning brought bad news. It was an announcement from WorldSpace satellite radio service saying it was discontinuing its operations in India at the end of this year. “WorldSpace has been the background score at my home for almost a decade. It’s really sad to see it go,” said Udupa, a 26-year-old Bangalore-based product manager at Yahoo! India. The announcement didn’t come as a total surprise. Trai seeks views from stakeholders on DTH tariff
NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today sought the views of stakeholders on a supplementary consultation paper specifically dealing with certain aspects of tariff related issues as applicable to tariff dispensation for basic and add-on packages in case of DTH services. The supplementary consultation paper is in continuation with the consultation paper issued on “DTH Issues relating to Tariff Regulation & new issues under reference” dated March 6 this year and was issued after an order of the Tdsat. Worldspace India to shut shop on 31 December
MUMBAI: On December 31, 2009, the WorldSpace satellite radio broadcast service will be terminated for all customers serviced from India, according to an announcement posted on the company website. This action is an outgrowth of the financial difficulties facing WorldSpace India’s parent company, WorldSpace, Inc., which has been under bankruptcy protection since October 2008, the announcement says.
