Aksh Optifibre Ltd, the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) partner for MTNL and BSNL, has signed a three-year content deal with Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific), the international television distribution arm of The Walt Disney Company for movie content partnership, this was first speculated by Televisionpoint.com in October last year.
Aksh has already signed a deal with Sony Pictures International Television for its Hollywood content on icontrol service, which allows viewers to control television programmes as per their convenience.
icontrol subscribers now have access to a range of movies from Walt Disney Pictures, Disney/Pixar, Miramax Films and Touchstone Pictures. The tie up gives subscribers the flexibility to watch Disney movies without any advertisement at their convenience with bookmarking features at the click of a remote.
Dr. Kailash Choudhari, managing director, Aksh Optifibre, says, “Entering into this agreement with Disney helps us ensure that our icontrol IPTV service has a continuous slate of outstanding movies. We’re enthusiastic to enter this new agreement with one of the greatest brands in the entertainment industry, especially at a time when we’re expanding to reach out to more people.”
“The Indian television and film audience is vast and sophisticated and we see huge growth opportunities in the next 5 to 10 years for new media initiatives. This new deal means that Indian viewers can enjoy more quality Disney entertainment at the touch of their remote,” said Rob Gilby, senior vice-president and managing director, Disney-ABC International Television (Asia Pacific).
Aksh has a presence in Delhi and Mumbai with MTNL and about 20 cities with BSNL and expects to extend its presence in 60 cities in the next couple of months. These include cities spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP (West).
