Dish TV’s plan to improve its channel capacity to 420 with the launch of its own satellite Agrani, is likely to be delayed. According to the Financial Express, Dish TV, had tied up with satellite services operator ProtoStar to launch the satellite, got involved in a clash with the Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Feuds involve frequency coordination with other satellite providers and tgus has not yet received ITU approval.

Instead of focusing on the business of DTH(direct to home), ProtoStar, helps its customers manage their investments required to launch their own satellites. Presently, Dish TV currently holds nine c-band transponders on a European satellite NSS-6 with 220 television channels. Sources claim that on account of the dispute with ITU, Dish TV has now altered its strategy, thereby putting digital video recording(DVR) on the offer.

According to international report, following a decision by an ITU body of not granting an extension to the June 28 deadline for bringing the ProtoStar-1system into operation, the ProtoStar has lost the backing of the Singapore government on its orbital slot and broadcast frequency license. That puts ProtoStar in a confused legal situation, without the shelter of any regulatory support. Though later on ProtoStar declared of having secured regulatory support from a not mentioned government, whose identity will be disclosed to the ITU in due course.
